About Gerrie Rice

Several years ago I owned and operated a needlepoint shop that specialized in carrying hand painted canvases. Each year I would travel to New York to the Trade Show to place my orders. My days revolved around teaching and stitching.

Eventually, I made the difficult decision to close the shop. It's said for each door that closes, one opens; and the door that opened to me was painting. Over the past 15 years I have taken numerous art classes in acrylics and watercolors. I soon began selling my artwork and teaching painting techniques.

Recently, I have come full circle in that my artistic expression has led me back to my first passion of needlepoint. As you can see my designs are unique and often whimsical and are painted with the stitcher always foremost in my mind. I try and eliminate any guesswork. Being a stitcher myself I know how important proper placement of colour on the canvas can be. Whenever possible I paint to line. I hope you will enjoy stitching my work as much as I enjoy painting it.
